Never used a power tool before? Tired of listening to that leaky faucet? Not only does the North Portland Tool Library have tools, we also sponsor hands-on workshops to help you learn to use those tools more effectively. Our goal is to host at least three workshops a year that cover basic tool use and safety as well as more advanced woodworking and construction techniques. The workshops are free and will be designed and run by skilled individuals from the community or partner organizations. If you would like to see what workshops we have coming up check our calendar.

The North Portland Tool Library is planning for the future, and we need your
help!

Please join us at the Kenton Fire House for good food, good community, and good
conversation as we roll up our sleeves and help plan the future of the North
Portland Tool Library.

1) Sun, Jul 27 (9:30 am - 4:00 pm)
   and/or
2) Sun, Aug 3 (9:30 am - 4:00 pm)

Location: Kenton Firehouse (2209 N Schofield St)

It has been almost four years since the North Portland Tool Library opened its
doors, and community support for our organization has been phenomenal.    The
time has come to envision the next phase of the NPTL.  Are you:
•    a member?
•    a local business owner ?
•    a volunteer?
•    a neighbor?
•    a person interested in the Tool Library?

If you have ideas about how we can build a better Tool Library and a better
North Portland, we want your input!

•    You can come for both days, one full day, or even a half day if your
time is tight.
•    Each meeting will start on Sunday at 9:30 am with coffee and bagels
•    The meeting will end no later than 4:00 pm, with a lunch break    (lunch
will be provided).

Bring your energy and ideas, we’ll provide the tools, and together we will
build an organization and a community that is truly great!

Please RSVP so we are sure to have enough food for everyone:

•    Online at (our evite here) or
•    By phone at 503 823 0209

The Kenton Firehouse is located at 2209 N Schofield Street near downtown
Kenton.  Check our website if you need directions.
www.northportlandtoollibrary.org.  We’ll see you there!

Some subjects to consider for discussion:
•    What can NPTL do better and how?
•    What can NPTL do differently?
•    How can we make the NPTL model more sustainable?
•    How to best keep up with membership growth?  Reduce lines?  Keep costs
low?
•    Ideas about finding a new space to house the Tool Library?
•    Sources of Stable funding (membership fees?  Grant sources?  Become a
part of state bureaucracy like the library system? Funding drives, fundraising
event ideas? Etc.)
•    How can we better partner with other organizations in North Portland?
•    Better and more: workshops, workshop leaders, tools, space?
•    Other services you’d like to see?

Pictures from our very first "Basic Skills" workshop on 1/29/05:
NPTL Steering Committee member and workshop instructor Laura Dalton blathers on about the slide miter saw and safe use. North Portland resident Pamela Jeanne lets the chips fly under Laura's watchful eye.
North Portland resident Lorenzo Carmona practices sinking sheet rock screws to the perfect depth with the cordless drill.
Sisters and NP residents Zannah (left) and Jennifer Martell (center) experience the thrills of reciprocating saw demolition with the assistance of Oregon Tradeswomen instructor Dawn Jones (right).
Are you skilled in the building trades and interested in sharing your knowledge with others? Or maybe you have a great idea for a workshop. If so, we would love to hear from you. Our primary goal is to give residents of North Portland the information they need, so community input is crucial.
